Vanwide, 042236

Rail history throws up some quirky stories. According to what we have uncovered, this dual-fit Vanwide was consigned to Marples & Gillott for scrapping c.1994, but was detached at Peterborough with a hot box. And there it remained, eventually finding itself in a rake of 'abandoned' wagons and disappearing behind greenery as the yard became overgrown. Determining how to collect the RRA coupled to it, Andrew made a bid to DB to acquire it and 3 ferry vans, previously belonging to Jarvis but seized by DB in lieu of monies owed. DB accepted the offer, making provision of craneage and transport viable.  The van left Peterborough on 5 July 2018, arriving at Darley Dale later that day.

It is planned to make the vehicle an engine repair workshop and to that end the van came into the Geoffrey Briddon Building at Darley Dale during November 2018 to be re-roofed and internal lighting, etc fitted before receiving a planned external sand blast and repaint.

Sources have clarified its number - prior to becoming 042236 on the internal-user fleet, it was B778331.
